Stainless steel plate plasma cutting process
Although stainless steel plates account for a relatively small proportion of world steel consumption, they are still vital to specific manufacturing industries such as the energy and food processing markets. At present, the global consumption of stainless steel plate materials is continuously increasing.
In recent years, technological progress has significantly improved the quality of plasma cutting of stainless steel plates. These advancements span a range of thicknesses and have reached 6.25 inches.
The early plasma cutting consumes a high current and the cutting speed is also very slow. One of the older systems uses nitrogen as the plasma gas and water injection shield to cut 3 inches of material at 15 inches per minute (IPM) at 750 amps.
So if you want to cut a 5-inch stainless steel plate, you need to use H35 (35% hydrogen, 65% argon) plasma gas and a coaxial flowing water skirt to achieve an amazing 1000 amperes.
